Social responsibility has been an important part of Give Stålspær's profile – long before there was something called CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Accountability is an important cornerstone of our DNA and it is given a natural expression in our attitudes, actions, and daily work at the factory. For us it concerns focus, positive and negative choices - and ultimately positioning our vision, mission, values and strategy in relation to our commercial accountability and our social responsibility. We believe the industry should hire more apprentices
We believe that industry should take social responsibility and hire more apprentices! Many industrial companies expect that apprentices should perform from day one and be part of the company's production. Taking on apprentices requires capacity, which discourages many companies from creating new positions for apprentices. We believe that the potential of far too many young people goes to waste because there is a shortage of internships and apprenticeships in the business community. Therefore, Give Stålspær A/S wishes to focus on this problem. An apprenticeship is far more than what you learn about your profession. It also means learning about meeting in the morning, getting up from the sofa, engaging in a community and being accountable for your duties. With 17 apprenticeships and its 300 employees, Give Stålspær is approved to take on more apprentices than normal for similar industrial companies. In addition to apprenticeship programmes, we also run EGU programmes, which ensure that young people are given the chance to enter the labour market and have a good working life.
Our employees must have a safe working environment
Give Stålspær has an active health and safety organisation that consists of a department of 2 full-time employees who are responsible for safety and the environment. The department focuses its efforts on our focus areas and takes initiatives for ongoing improvements in the field. Through internal training, counselling, execution and follow-up, we therefore ensure a safe, good-quality working environment for the benefit of all our employees.
Everyone deserves a good working life
The company's social responsibility is also expressed in our social and senior policies. We believe it is important to maintain contact with the labour market, also when things have gone slightly awry. The establishment of flex jobs and low-intensity jobs makes this possible. It is also important that we have the chance to remain on the labour market for as long as is possible. We aim with our social and senior policies to be able to do what we can to support this idea, within our own framework.
Recycling is a matter of course!
Steel is in itself a sustainable product with a long service life, which also holds great potential for recycling. Recyclable materials ought to be recycled! Therefore it is perfectly natural that we should send our scrap for melting and minimise the use of chemicals to the bare minimum. At our factory, we have also focused on minimising energy consumption and CO2 emissions and have made savings by installing automatic lighting, using low-energy light bulbs, ventilation and environmentally certified products for cleaning.
We save on paper by using digitalised workflows
In 2016, we focused on digitalising our workflows, to make us as fast, accurate and efficient as possible. This has reduced our consumption of paper and print considerably and led to a number of internal initiatives within the organisation, including electronic invoicing and digitalisation of workflows that were previously documented on paper. Reducing our paper consumption not only helps to conserve the environment. It also makes us faster, more efficient and is part of our "best-in-Class strategy".
